Why Dubai? Me and my husband have been dreaming about living somewhere warm about a while now. At first we were thinking about to get another home from abroad. A place of our own where we could escape from Finlands winters. But then we got this opportunity to move somewhere that has the sun and warm weather all around the year.
Place under sun
We love the sunny weather and in Finland every summer feels rainier than the previous one. Also every winter time is feeling more longer, more darker than the last one.
Me and my husband have been dreaming about having a second home somewhere sunny, where we could run away from Finland’s dark cold winters. A place of our own under the sun.
Because it is quite expensive to own two homes, a thought came across our minds, could we maybe move to somewhere warm?
Why Dubai?
We visited in Dubai on March 2023 and we fell in love about how everything seems to work there.
When we first started to do a research about Dubai and what it is to live there, we thought that we would have to live in a skyscraper. But we soon learned that there are many options beside the skyscrapers! And when we found our future community, it was perfect. And not at all that expensive as many might think.
Also the fact that in Dubai you don’t have to pay taxes from your income, sounds very attractive.
In Dubai there are also so many schools to choose for the kids. In Dubai our kids will have wonderful international education. And of course a great change to learn English.
Making the decision
When my husband got the work offer my stomach went upside down for a while; oh my, this is it, we are really doing this!?
First thought was can we really do this to our kids? Is it fair to them to take them of to a whole another land, to a totally different culture? They cannot even speak the language! But after a while (well, after our kids got excited) my thoughts changed and I was able to be excited too.
So when I saw that this was also a great opportunity to the kids too, I just said to my husband let’s go for it! Let’s go this adventure and give our kids an amazing opportunity to go and learn too.
School, apartment etc.
Right after the decision was made we did A LOT of research about housing in Dubai, schools, what about the visa’s, driving licenses, cars, supermarkets. And also; what about our dog? Because we really didn’t want to leave him behind, he is also part of our family.
We were so happy to notice that dogs are allowed in Dubai (well, at least most of them, please see a list of banned dog breeds in Dubai here). So I got our dog his passport and he was ready to move to Dubai also.
After a while of research work we found a school and a place to live (well, at first we found part of Dubai where we would like to live and finding the proper apartment from that area is a whole another story).
So at the end of May 2023 we were in a situation where our kids were enrolled to a school, we had a contact regarding apartments, my husband had a job contract and our apartment in Finland were looking new owner. Journey was begun, but also there were still a lot to do. But a whole lot of more wiser regarding to moving in Dubai we were able to take a two week vacation as a whole family on Cyprus. And after the vacation it was time to move forward and my husband went to Dubai to get things prepared.
